Unfortunately the time has come to wind down the Stacks side of our business - this includes our game-changing 'micro' framework Source. It takes a lot of time and resource to support users and to maintain stacks, which I have been more than happy to do over these challenging last few years for ever decreasing reward. It has now reached a point however where I have completely lost interest in Stacks. Development and communication over the last 4 years has been fleeting and sporadic to say the least, and has left me with diminished hope that a fully-functioning app (with any kind of sustainable future) will ever be realised.
Will your stacks / Source continue to work?
Yes - they should continue to work for a long time to come. Certainly when using them with the Stacks plugin with RapidWeaver. If there are any critical issues then I will endeavour to push out updates to fix things.
Source and all my stacks use modern code and will remain suitable for use in your published websites for many years to come.
Are your stacks still available?
All my stacks are still available currently at a highly reduced rate. I will use the proceeds from any sales to keep the Source, Stacks and Academy websites up for at least another year (to keep them available for reference, to keep the demos active and to maintain existing download links etc).
What about Stacks 6?
Unfortunately, I will not be supporting my stacks or Source in Stacks 6 if/when it is ever released.
That said, as of the latest beta there were no apparent problems with my stacks and so if they work for you in Stacks 6 then you are welcome to continue to use them. For Source to work a whole new theme is required. A beta version of this exists but it is not perfect (I will include it though in a minor update to Source that I will push out in the coming weeks). Unfortunately support / documentation for theme development is largely non-existent and so I haven't been able to get the theme set up entirely as I would have liked. Again though, if it works for you in Stacks 6 then you are welcome to continue to use it.
Please note though that I do not plan on releasing any updates / fixes for any issues found with my stacks in Stacks 6 app.
Future support
Knowledge Base
I have no plans to shut down the Knowledge Base. It is hosted with a third-party service so even if I end my current hosting contract it can stay available to provide information and support for my products.
Stacks updates
I will endeavour to release updates for any critical bugs that affect usage of my stacks/Source when used with RW/Stacks plugin.
Email / Chat support
I will end support via email and chat at the end of 2025.
Stacks4All
I will continue to help out and answer queries on the stacks4all forum whenever I can.
Websites
I will use any money from continued sales to maintain my hosting contract. This will ensure all demo pages, the Academy site and download links continue to work (past my renewal date in December).
This wasn't an easy decision to make but I hope that you understand why it has been made. I wish the whole RapidWeaver / Stacks community the very best for the years ahead!
