Traverse is a macOS outlining application provided by Shaking the Habitual (“we”, “our”, or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how Traverse handles your data.

Traverse is designed around local-first outlining. Your outlines are stored as OPML files in a library folder on your Mac, including any folder location you choose.

Data collection

We do not collect, store, sell, or track your personal data on our servers.

Traverse stores outline documents locally on your device as OPML files. These files may include the text, notes, attributes, numbering settings, document metadata, and structure you add to your outlines.

If you choose a folder that syncs through iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or another file-sync service, your OPML files may be synced by that service according to its own settings and privacy policy. Traverse does not control those services.

Apple Intelligence

Traverse includes an optional Generate with AI feature that uses Apple Intelligence through Apple’s Foundation Models framework where available.

This feature is opt-in. It is only used when you enable AI in Traverse settings and choose to generate an outline. The prompt you enter is used to create an editable outline in Traverse.

Traverse does not send your AI prompts or generated outlines to our own servers. Apple Intelligence availability and processing are handled by Apple’s system frameworks.

In-app purchases

Traverse may offer optional in-app purchases or subscriptions for Traverse Pro. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Traverse uses Apple’s StoreKit framework to check whether a valid Traverse Pro purchase or subscription is active on your device.

Third-party services

Traverse does not include third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools.

The app uses Apple system frameworks for app functionality, file access, Apple Intelligence, and App Store purchases. Any information handled by Apple is subject to Apple’s own privacy practices.

Data retention and deletion

Your outline data remains in the OPML files stored on your Mac or in the folder location you choose.

You can delete Traverse outlines from within the app, or delete OPML files directly in Finder. If your files are stored in a synced folder, deletion and recovery may also depend on that sync provider’s behavior.

Removing Traverse from your Mac does not necessarily delete OPML files you saved outside the app bundle or in your chosen library folder.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in Traverse, our practices, or legal requirements. If we make significant changes, we will update the effective date and publish the revised policy.
