Traverse Free is a capable local outliner without a library limit. Traverse Pro adds leverage for larger, more structured, and more repeatable workflows while keeping existing work accessible.

Included in Free

  • Edit the built-in Welcome and Tutorial outlines.
  • Create, import, and edit unlimited outlines in your Traverse library.
  • Use Column and Outline views.
  • Add and use everyday built-in attributes: Note, Task, URL, and Mark.
  • Search node text and notes with the text filter.
  • Open external OPML files read-only.
  • Export outlines as OPML, Markdown, Fountain, CSV, or a PDF of the current view when the document supports that format.
  • Continue using Type, Fountain, and custom attributes already present in an outline.

Included in Pro

  • Add the Type attribute for semantic headings, body text, lists, quotes, code, dividers, and structured Markdown Document export.
  • Add the Fountain attribute for screenplay-aware outlining, character suggestions, title-page metadata, and clean Fountain export.
  • Create new outlines from reusable Templates.
  • Add reusable Snippets to speed up outline development.
  • Edit external OPML files directly and save changes back to the original file.
  • Generate a starting outline with Apple Intelligence where available.
  • Add and edit custom attribute definitions.
  • Filter by task state, Type, Fountain elements, marks, custom checkboxes, and lookup values.
  • Use Focus mode.

What happens if Pro is not active

Traverse keeps your work accessible rather than hiding it. Every outline in your Traverse library remains editable, browsable, searchable, and exportable.

Type and Fountain cannot be added to another outline until Pro is active again, but any outline that already contains either attribute continues to use it normally. Existing custom attribute values also remain available, although adding or changing custom attribute definitions requires Pro.

External OPML files return to read-only, and Pro-only actions return to their Free behaviour. Templates and Snippets remain visible, but applying them requires Pro.

Purchases and subscriptions

Pro is available as lifetime access or a monthly or annual subscription through the App Store. Purchases are processed by Apple, and Traverse checks StoreKit to see whether a valid Pro purchase or subscription is active.

Restoring Pro

If Pro should already be active, open Settings > Pro and use Restore Purchases. Traverse will ask the App Store to refresh your current entitlements.
